crabbBy Jason Crabb | Spring Hill Music

Jason Crabb, vocalist for The Crabb Family and performer at the Grand Ole Opry and Brooklyn Tabernacle, releases his self-titled solo debut today.

Produced by Tommy Sims and Norro Wilson, the project features appearances by Vince Gill, Sonya Isaacs and members of the Gaither Vocal Band. The release pays tribute to Crabb's Southern roots, but Sims' involvement helped bring about a more "soulful sound" on the song "Somebody Like Me," Crabb said.

"[The song] turned out just awesome," he said. "It is very humbling to work with a guy who was Bruce Springsteen's music director for five years."

Crabb also delivers his "signature song," "Through the Fire," written by his father, Gerald, and made popular in his time with the family group. "This is a song I will sing until God calls me home," he said. "I've sung it many nights trying to convince myself that He is going to take care of my situation."

Other tracks include "Walk on Water," "I Will Love You," "Sometimes I Cry," "One Day at a Time" and "Daystar."

Crabb said he hopes the songs on the project will hit the listeners at the time they need to hear the messages the most. "All I can say is that I hope whatever the listener is feeling in his or her life at a particular moment, there will be a song on this record that will help him or her find their way through the trial," he said. "If someone has a bad day or if they are just feeling a little lonely, I hope they will find strength in this recording."
